Are you an expert in credit risk model development with a passion for securitization? As the Manager of Securitization & Wholesale Credit Methodology, you will play a crucial role in shaping the credit risk models that quantify and manage the risks associated with BMO's corporate customers-representing over 70% of the bank's total exposure. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in securitization to develop and enhance complex credit risk models, ensuring they align with regulatory requirements and withstand scrutiny from both internal and external stakeholders. Your work will be instrumental in adapting these models to new business environments and obtaining regulatory approval, offering you a rare opportunity to make a significant mark on the industry.

Key Responsibilities:

- Securitization Expertise: Lead the development and refinement of securitization models, ensuring they accurately reflect the credit risk associated with wholesale lending and meet stringent regulatory standards.

- Model Development: Oversee the creation, testing, and validation of wholesale credit risk models, guiding your team to deliver robust solutions that support BMO's corporate lending activities.

- Regulatory Compliance: Work closely with internal audit, model risk, and regulatory teams to ensure that all models meet the highest standards of compliance and effectiveness.

- Project Management: Manage multiple projects simultaneously. Your ability to communicate complex concepts in simple terms will be key to your success.

- Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, both internal and external, ensuring that all parties understand the implications of the models being developed.

What We're Looking For:

- Experience in Securitization: A deep understanding of securitization, along with proven experience in developing and managing securitization models.

- Wholesale Credit Risk Expertise: Preferably, you have a background in wholesale credit risk model development. Candidates with experience in larger credit risk roles or those with a strong quantitative background in bank model development will also be considered.

- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in SAS is a must, along with strong skills in R or Python.

- Leadership Skills: Demonstrated experience in a model development setting, with strong communication skills to articulate complex ideas to non-technical audiences.

- Educational Background: A strong foundation in statistics, mathematics, or a related quantitative field.

This position is located in Toronto and offers a hybrid work model with 2-3 days in the office.

Applies mathematical and statistical methods to financial and risk management problems (e.g. internal controls; enterprise-wide stress testing and scenario analysis; capital modelling; valuations). Through quantitative analytical modelling, identifies important factors to consider for financial disaster and recovery plans. Conducts research and creates tools that use data to develop scenario-based planning and implements complex mathematical models to help the business make better financial and financial decisions (e.g. investments, pricing, etc.), drive innovation and minimize the impact of uncertainty.
  • Develops pricing and quantitative risk models for an assigned portfolio e.g. fixed income, corporate credit and loans.
  • Monitors risk in strategies and portfolios alongside project managers or functional leads.
  • Conducts research and develops tools that use data to make better financial decisions; such as: investments, pricing, etc.
  • Applies knowledge of risk assessment and controls along with extensive understanding of industry compliance standards and regulations.
  • Identifies ways of mitigating potential risks; recommends and implements solutions based on analysis of issues and implications for the business.
  • Documents data flow, systems and processes to improve the design, implementation and management of business/group processes.
  • Conducts quantitative research in risks across strategies and portfolios.
  • Focus is primarily on business/group within BMO; may have broader, enterprise-wide focus.
  • Provides specialized consulting, analytical and technical support.
  • Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.
  • Works independently and regularly handles non-routine situations.
  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

  • Deep knowledge and technical proficiency gained through extensive education and business experience.
Salary :

$81,600.00 - $151,200.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group's expected target for the first year in this position.
